25 reasons to fight the DRM

This was a fantastic read.

It’s a list of 25 reasons why Digital Rights/Restrictions Management should be done away with altogether.

I particularly enjoyed #22, “It locks you in” – Several years ago during the heyday of Napster 2.0 and iPods, several companies around my town (and others, I’m sure) decided to combine the two in marketing promotions that most people would see as “ill advised.”

If you bought a car or whatever, you were given an iPod and a 25 song download card for Napster… neverminding the fact that you wouldn’t be able to put those 25 songs on your iPod, ever. Due to the incompatibility of the two DRM schemes the companies enforced.

Lots of unhappy kids that Christmas.
