RIAA changes tactics

I first found out about this article via BoingBoing, but the originator of the article is the Wall Street Journal.

The gist of the article is that the RIAA has been using its MediaSentry strategy for five years and has decided to change course and use another company’s offering to ferret out illegal uploaders/downloaders.

Part of the problem with MediaSentry is that its strategy involved trolling the Internet for massive MP3s and such, downloading them, and using the downloads in court. However, all it proved was that MediaSentry downloaded the files.

The RIAA has instead opted to use another company’s offering. At this point, it’s unknown what this other company has that MediaSentry doesn’t.
