The FBI is First to Reply

Today when I checked the mail there was a pile of political adverts for people running for office. The Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra even tried to get into the act.

Anyway, in the middle of all the adverts, was a letter from the Federal Bureau of Investigation. It was addressed to me.

The letter states that the FBI conducted a search of their Central Records System and was “unable to identify responsive main file records.”

The letter goes on to say that “the U.S. Government can neither confirm or deny whether a particular person is on any terrorist watch list.” And that “If the U.S. Government revealed who was listed on any government watch list, terrorists would be able to take action to avoid detection by government authorities.”

So… if you think you might be on a watch list you should act as though you are. Got it.

There was a second page attached, an FBI File Fact Sheet. This is an informative sheet that says that the FBI does not keep a record of everyone in the US, that the FBI was not established until 1908, and that a rap sheet is not the same as an FBI file.

Good to know.
